Python Implementation of IEEE C37.118 Communication Protocol

Abstract

The analysis of tools for supporting the measurement of synchrophasors revealed the need for open, customizable, and platform independent tools. One such software tool is the open implementation of the IEEE C37.118 communication protocol for data transfer. This paper describes an implementation process of the protocol in a form of a Python library module. The discussion illustrates its use and validation using third-party tools. Finally, the paper outlines future work on the improvements and possible practical applications.
